Origin: Kybershield – Make everyday digital life easier

The origin of Kybershield is a story of frustration, inspiration and purpose.

Act 1: The Frustration

Years in technology has taught me managing sensitive data (like passwords) was always a lurking challenge. Managing this sensitive data was difficult because the truth is, people naturally (and understandably) gravitate to the most usable, accessible and easy solutions, cue post-it notes on monitors. No amount of sternly written emails, layers of software and adult supervision can eliminate this behavior.

Act 2: The Inspiration

One day, while using WhatsApp web it hit me, why do billions of people trust WhatsApp and use it everyday, was it because it was cryptographically secure and completely private? No, WhatsApp was popular because it was in many ways more accessible then even SMS.

Researching the topic I came to the conclusion that “Security is not a successful product’s focus, it is simply a measure of your respect for user privacy“. In this time I researched apps designed like WhatsApp in different “productivity” segments (documents, passwords, file management, to-do lists etc.), most apps were either well designed for everyday use or designed to respect user privacy. The password manager space was particularly interesting because the apps had the appropriate standard of privacy and security (although often lacked the consideration of design). Consumers should have a market choice that is as well designed the most successful apps but with the same level of privacy and security as password managers.

Act 3: The Purpose

Kybershield’s goal is to Make everyday digital life easier. Easier is the key word here, protecting yourself should be easy (seamless). Apps should be user-centric, provided by a team with a hyper-critical sense of respect for privacy and security.

At its core Kybershield is a considered balance between the respect for privacy, acknowledgement of customer choice and sharing of digital experiences

My initial ambition is to build a password manager that is easier to use then pen and paper or memory. The first goal post is to serve a community of 100,000 users.

I hope you enjoy what we (Kybershield) have to offer and thank you for your trust.

About Me (Tony Hoang Tin Nguyen – Founder)

I am an Australian by birth, Vietnamese by ethnicity. With more then 10 years in the technology space I have held a number of senior positions (lead engineer, Partner, CEO, Founder) with organizations focused on areas such as Finance, Safety and Health, Connectivity and the Public Good. I hold a double bachelors in Business and Information Technology from the University of Technology Sydney. I have worked around the world with most time spent in Australia and the UAE. My two favorite topics are Technology and Economics. To me, when studied together, it is the study of the acceleration of progress juxtaposed against the scarcity of reality. I consider myself to be a highly opinionated technology DJ hopefully mixing together collective action, engineering excellence and artistic expression.
